The Kerala Government has opened helpline to overtake reliable information on the Thekkady disaster. The relatives and friends of the victims of the Thekkady boat disaster can call up the following helpline numbers at the Government Guest House, Ernakulam (Kochi), for information: 0484-2360502, 2360558, 2360639.

The search operations were continuing at the accident spot at Thekkady, more dead bodies are being fished out by the various rescue teams. The toll has risen to 41 till the afternoon and the bodies are being moved to the Periyar Hospital near the spot.

All the business shops and business establishments in this tourist location remained closed on Thursday to pay homage to the departed souls in the watery grave at Thekkady on Wednesday (30/09/09). Hotels were also closed and only medical shops are remaining open.

The boat tragedy has shocked the entire south India, especially Kerala.
